Buy, Lease or Hire an Agricultural Drone?
A practical worksheet for deciding between hiring a service provider, leasing or buying your own spray or mapping drone.
Hire a provider when…
Your acres are modest or seasonal, you need specialist sensors or analysis, you do not want to hold aviation and pesticide credentials yourself, or you need extra capacity at peak times. You pay per job or per acre and avoid ownership costs.
Lease or rent when…
You want to trial a system, need equipment for a defined season, or prefer predictable payments. Check what the lease includes — batteries, generator, charger, insurance, training and repair turnaround.
Buy when…
You have enough regular work to keep the system busy and are prepared to obtain and maintain the credentials, insurance, training, records and maintenance that ownership requires.
Count the whole system, not the drone
A working spray system usually needs multiple batteries, a generator or fast charger, a nurse tank and mixing setup, spare parts, software subscriptions and transport. Add training, certification, insurance and pilot time.
Ask dealers the right questions
What local support, parts stock and repair turnaround do you offer? Is training included? What does the warranty cover? Can I see the aircraft working in a crop like mine? Our directory lists dealers, repair centres and trainers alongside service providers.
